If you’re looking for a cozy dessert that feels comforting without being overly sweet or complicated, this apple cranberry crisp is it.

It’s made with just a handful of pantry staples, naturally sweetened with maple syrup, and finished with a hearty oat topping that adds the perfect crunch.

This is one of those recipes that works just as well for a weeknight dessert as it does for a holiday table—simple ingredients, big flavor, and no fuss.

Apple + Cranberry = Great Combo

Apples and cranberries are both nutrient-dense fruits that bring more than just flavor to this recipe.

Apples
Apples are rich in fiber—especially pectin, a type of soluble fiber that supports digestion and helps keep you feeling satisfied. They also provide vitamin C and antioxidants, making them a great everyday fruit that adds natural sweetness and texture.

Cranberries
Cranberries are well known for supporting urinary tract health, but they’re also packed with powerful antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and support immune health.

Using frozen cranberries keeps this recipe easy and adds a tart flavor that balances the sweetness of the apples and maple syrup beautifully.

Together, they create a naturally sweet-tart dessert that doesn’t rely on heavy amounts of sugar.

Not Just for Dessert!

One of my favorite things about this apple cranberry crisp is that it’s not just dessert—I love it for breakfast or as a filling afternoon snack.

A warm scoop paired with vanilla Greek yogurt is so good and adds a nice boost of protein that keeps me satisfied. And honestly, I was shocked at how delicious the cranberries were.

They soften perfectly, add just the right amount of tartness, and balance the apples so well that every bite taste cozy and fresh without being overly sweet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:

Can I make this apple cranberry crisp ahead of time?

Yes! You can bake it ahead and store it covered in the fridge for up to 4–5 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the entire dish in the oven at 300°F until heated through.

Can I use fresh cranberries instead of frozen?

Absolutely. Fresh cranberries work just as well—no changes needed. Frozen cranberries are convenient and can go straight from the freezer into the dish, but either option is great.

Is this recipe very sweet?

No, this crisp is intentionally lightly sweetened. The maple syrup and small amount of brown or coconut sugar allow the natural flavors of the apples and cranberries to shine.
